Common misconceptions:

  • “Your workouts look way too hard! There is no way I can do any of that stuff.”
  • “I have to get in shape first before I come.”
  • “People will make fun of me.”
  • “I’ve never lifted before so I won’t be able to do anything.”
  • “I’m afraid of getting too “bulky.”
  • “ I’m afraid of losing weight and “strength.”

These are all things we have heard before, and the fact of the matter is EVERYONE can find their place at CrossFit Bloomington-Normal.

  • Have below 10% body fat.
  • Started with above 50% body fat.
  • Are tri-athletes.
  • Are high school and college athletes.
  • Have never been athletes.
  • Are housewives.
  • Are senior citizens.
  • Are marathon runners.
  • Are weekend warriors.
  • Have four kids and need to de-stress.
  • Want to be in the CrossFit Games.
  • Simply just want to be healthy.
  • Want to be able to play with their children or grandchildren.

Whatever the case may be, we have worked with every type of individual. Everyone’s goals are different, and they should be. Our job is to help everyone attain those goals. All we ask of our members is to work hard and be coachable. As coaches, we take what we do very seriously and love watching people push themselves to the limit of THEIR INDIVIDUAL ability.

Our workouts are INFINITELY SCALABLE. We realize at first glance the workouts can look intimidating. For example, how many people have ever heard of a Clean & Jerk, much less done 30 of them as fast as possible for time? Our workouts are designed for the top 5% or so of the gym population based on skill level. Then the VAST majority of the gym has their workout scaled in some fashion to fit their ability level. As coaches we pride ourselves to know everyone’s ability levels within our gym and scale accordingly.

The beauty of this gym is the support everyone receives within each class. The community feel that has been built here is truly amazing. Whether you’re the first one done with a workout or the last, everyone is pulling for you. THERE IS NO ROOM FOR EGOS within these walls. If you are not willing to be coached, have a bad attitude with the workout, or toward other members, you will be asked to leave and not welcomed back.

Lastly, whatever your “excuse” may be for not coming in to try us out, we have heard it before. The one thing we can tell you is that we have members here that are improving themselves every day by getting fitter and healthier who have: less time than you, less money, more kids, more injuries, more responsibilities, who are heavier and have more food issues than you. Every day there are members of this gym overcoming “common obstacles” that prevent most people from being healthy and (more importantly) fit. No matter how convinced you are that you have real life obstacles that prevent you from coming in here and improving your overall wellness, there are people with bigger obstacles that work through them everyday.
