We are not your typical gym. CrossFit Bloomington-Normal is a fitness facility. We are proud to be the fitness counterculture to America’s flawed exercise model. In a “normal gym” you will find people pumping up beach muscles in front of mirrors and reading or watching TV while doing “cardio.” They will meet up at the juice bar to chat, but you can’t tell who’s coming or who’s going because no one worked hard enough to make themselves sweaty or uncomfortable. There are acres of shiny, expensive machines designed to work parts of your body you didn’t even know you had.
What you find at CrossFit Bloomington-Normal is more like an old-school garage gym. We have plyo-boxes, gymnastic rings, kettlebells, climbing ropes, weight-lifting platforms with thousands of pounds of rubber bumper plates, and meters and meters of pull-up bar space. Rather than makeup and blow-dried hair, our members are covered in weightlifting chalk and outfitted with sweat and a steely look of determination and accomplishment. Hard work and the basics are cherished above all else. You will squat, press, jump, pull, push, lift sandbags, run, row, flip tractor tires, sprint and myriad other things that were once reserved for “the athletic elite.” Whether you’re a grandmother, a college athlete, or anywhere in between, you will find our programming fun, challenging and scalable to your individual physical abilities. Ultimately, you will make progress like you’ve never experienced before.
Here at CrossFit Bloomington-Normal you will have world-class instruction on a daily basis. We don’t just want you to do, we want you to understand and become educated in the “why.” With our attentive coaching staff over your shoulder instructing and encouraging, you will be armed with the confidence to do things you never thought possible. We’ve had 40-year-olds get their first pull-up. We’ve helped a woman who hasn’t water skied in 15 years get back on the water. We’ve helped numerous folks kick prescriptions and overcome injuries they never thought they’d escape to achieve a level of health, happiness and fitness they thought would be permanently unattainable. We spend time in the gym to make the rest of our life more effective. The difference is not just in WHAT we do, but in HOW we do it.
The greatest key to your success is YOU!!! Achieving elite fitness (and a body that looks good naked) takes time, effort, dedication, sacrifice and the watchful eye of our dedicated staff. The most beneficial aspect of our facility is the strong feeling of community that exists between the entire CFBN Family, members and staff alike. The people you work out next to will genuinely become your friends. It’s amazing the bonds that can be built by people working hard with one another.
It is THIS difference that finally allows people to overcome their obstacles, build consistency, and make the progress that has eluded them at a normal fitness facility. In our family, you will find support in and out of the gym. Need help with your diet? Coaches and athletes alike (we call all our members athletes here) will be able to give you pointers and make suggestions based in both science and experience. Motivation slipping? You will have friends and coaches that not only support you, but will call you to see how you’re doing when we haven’t seen you for a while. Frustrated with work or home life? Come in, vent, get a good sweat going, and we guarantee you’ll feel like a new person. All our athletes are important to us, and we’ll do anything within our power to help you succeed. When you join our gym, you’re not just paying to rent the space for a couple hours a week. You’ll get education, accountability, and the support of a family that will go out of their way to help you, whatever your problems may be.
